About Lisa
Mental Health Counseling
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alaska with specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a highly effective, evidence-based approach for healing from trauma and distressing life experiences. With over 5 years of experience in private practice, I have supported clients through challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. My EMDR training and ongoing doctoral studies in psychology strengthen my practice and allow me to integrate research-based methods with compassionate, individualized care.
EMDR is a structured therapy that helps people reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or disruptive. During EMDR, clients recall distressing experiences while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping. This process helps the brain “unstick” memories that are stored in a way that keeps triggering intense emotional or physical responses. Over time, these memories lose their emotional charge and are integrated into a person’s broader life story, allowing for greater resilience, peace, and self-confidence.
In my practice, I use EMDR to help clients move beyond the pain of past experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, and create a stronger sense of balance and well-being. My approach is client-centered, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that with the right tools, people can heal and thrive.
